Market report for November 13, 2020
218 head of bred cows and heifers were featured on Friday in Vanderhoof as well as 885 calves, yearlings and slaughter cows and bulls.
The bred sale began at high noon and featured a couple of herd dispersals and strong local demand. Vivian Buchanan started off the sale with a sort of Blk hfrs that sold to 2050.00 and some Red hfrs that also stopped at 2050.00. Clarence Friesen followed up with two sorts of Blk hfrs that both climbed to 2300.00. Moving on to the bred cows, Vivian Buchanan saw Red cows sell to 2250.00. Brandon Darter had some young Blk cows top the market for the day at 2425.00 and a group of his Reds climbed to 2325.00. George and Donna Funk offered 44 crossbred cows and saw 5 Blk cows return 2150.00 and another pen of 5 Blks reach 2125.00.
In the regular sale, calf prices were stronger today with significant local buyer interest once again. Beverly Ann Benjamin from Smithers saw 450 lb s/c soar to 252.00 and 402 lb s/c all the way to 267.00. Canyon Creek Farms Ltd had heavy Simm x s/c at 705 lbs reach 181.00 and 641 lb s/c fetch 190.25. Traugott Klein sold Red s/c at 668 lbs for 186.00, 590 lb s/c saw 204.00 and 535 lb s/c to 221.00. Kochel Cattle and Timber Ltd. brought 3 liner loads of calves to town today. 86 head of s/c weighing 561 high marked at 213.00, 645 lb s/c brought 197.50 and 456 lb s/c stopped at 234.00. On the Heifer side, a sort of 603 lb Blk h/c raced to 190.00, 82 head of 507 lb h/c returned 181.75 and 437 lb h/c saw 194.50. Ryon and Narel Kusler sold Blk s/c at 604 lbs to 204.50 and 474 lb s/c were 233.00, the Blk h/c at 469 lb touched 190.00. JohnMyshral from Terrace saw his 647 lb s/c bring 194.00 and 563 lb h/c worked all the way up to 184.50. Alfred Schneider presented Blk h/c at 588 lbs for 191.00. Tatalrose Ranch Inc. tested the yearling trade with 926 lb Strs reaching 175.00 and 767 lb Hfrs selling for 161.50. The slaughter market was highlighted by TMT Enterprises Ltd with 1525 lb cows reaching 69.50, Fritz Walther with 1419 lb cows at 69.00 and Robert and Vicki Ophus with a 1840 lb Blk bull that saw 93.00.
