Vanderhoof Sale - Friday, Nov 6, 2020
There were over 1600 head of calves on offer on Friday in Vanderhoof as well as 248 cows, bulls and yearlings.
SevenUp Ranch from Burns Lake had 195 calves as well as a liner load of cows. The char x s/c at 590 lbs marked 205.00, 513 lb s/c saw 216.50. The 550 lb Char x h/c fetched 182.50 and the 471 lb sisters raced all the way up to 204.50. A sort of their 953 lb Hfrs sold to 150.00 and a package of good hard Char cows at 1518 lbs forced 71.00. Marvin Amendt from Danskin had 638 lb Blk s/c sell to189.50, while George Amendt watched his red s/c at 570 lbs go all the way up to 211.25. Jason Beier brought in a sort of Angus x s/c that weighed 644 lbs and returned 188.00. Rod Bianco from Smithers had a liner load of Blk calves, 626 lb s/c reached 190.25, 540 lb s/c to 211.75, 572 lb h/c sold to 185.00, 490 lb h/c were 197.00 and the 403 lb h/c soared to 206.00. Marie Brade showed Red s/c at 613 lbs that returned 193.25, 523 lb s/c all the way to 216.50. David Burkholder had big 722 lb s/c stop at 175.00 and butcher cows at 1695 lbs to 70.50. Dieleman Ranch from Telkwa brought us 729 lb Strs that sold to 180.00. Dan and GeorgiaDykstra sold some Red s/c at 687 lbs for 185.50 and 553 lb s/c to 210.00. Bill and Barb Ephrom from the Canyon Ranch showcased 654 lb Simm x s/c that stopped at 193.50, 565 lb s/c were 207.25 and 438 lb s/c saw 227.00. Their h/c at 526 lbs were all the way up to 184.50 and 438 lb h/c touched 200.00. B & G Ventures had some Blk h/c at 568 lbs catch some attention and sell to 190.00. Golden Meadows Ranch Ltd brought a liner load of crossbred calves to town, the sort of 625 lb Red s/c saw 193.75, 563 lb s/c to 207.25 and 489 lb s/c all the way to 224.50, 488 lb h/c marked 196.00.Terry and Jerita Holmquist sold 592 lb Angus x s/c for 201.00 and 472 lb h/c to 196.50. HRH Ranch Ventures from Burns lake presented 572 lb s/c that saw 205.00 and Lianne Hummel, also from Burns Lake had Red s/c at 438 lbs rocket up to 241.00. Dave Johnson brought some of his good calves to town, 586 lb Tan s/c marked 206.00, 549 lb Tan s/c were 208.50, a sort of Red s/c at 528 lbs worked all the way up to 217.00. Dave’s 591 lb Tan h/c powered to 185.00, while the 522 lb h/c topped the market at 195.50. Rick Loreth sold Hfrs that weighed 808 lbs and reached 155.00 and Lenore Reimer had a sort of Hfrs at 910 lbs return 150.50. Larry Palmer had 31 s/c at 568 lbs see 208.50. Poole Farms showed a draft of 56 s/c at 493 lbs that marched to 223.50 and 611 lb s/c for 193.00. Pooles Arrow Ranch from Punchaw had every buyer’s attention with 67 head of Simm h/c at 589 lbs that set the standard at 189.00 and big strong 664 lb h/c that did not stop until they reached 186.50. Craig Steiner had Simm x s/c that pressed down the scales at 652 lbs and sold to 188.00, 539 lb s/c for 214.25 and 523 lb h/c at 184.25. Craig also sold a 2020 lb bull that topped the market at 98.00.
There was a lot of local buyer support at this sale, which made for a very competitive market, particularly on the h/c’s, with over 25\% of the calves staying in the region.
