VANDERHOOF Bred Cow & Heifer Sale, November 22nd

Local Interest was intense at our Bred Cow and Heifer sale with a capacity crowd fighting over the 400+ breeding stock on offer. Kicking things off we had KC Ranch (Fort Fraser) hfrs, at 1263 lb, setting the pace at 1900.00. Hatch Creek Ranch (Topley) followed up with 1171 lb blk hfrs equalling 1900.00. John Van Geloven (Hixon) saw his 1050 lb red hfrs demand 1750.00, while Rick Loreth (PG) sold a few 1088 lb RBF hfrs at 1650.00. Genevieve McAuley (Fort Fraser) had a strong showing with her dispersal of young blk cows, the best of which traded at 1950.00. Ray Miller's dispersal showed 1023 lb red hfrs worth 1800.00, and a ring full of young blk cows hit 1625.00. Glen Dyck (Burns Lk) had a package of big Char X cows, bred Red Angus that reached 1750.00. Andres Grunthal Equipment (PG) saw their pen of young red cows, January calvers, strike 1750.00. The story of the day here in Vanderhoof was the outstanding red cows from Alex and Julie Kulchar (Fort Fraser). These second and third calvers were bred Charolais and the first ring load brought 3025.00. They were followed by another 8 hd that raced to 2950.00! What a ride that was. In our regular sale we had a few calves, like the 684 lb s/c from Kevin Bailey (Van) marking 195.50, and 598 lb s/c at 207.50. Triple N Ranch (Burns Lk) in with 528 lb blk s/c that raced to 222.00. Tatalrose Ranch (Burns Lk) had 928 lb open hfrs run 166.00. Bit of pressure on the butcher trade as we see Murray Richards’ (PG) cows, at 1400 lb, bring 65.00. Mike and Geraldine Pritchard had a pen of 1457 lb Char cows maintain that 65.00. Raeann MacDougall (Van) had 1378 lb blk cows make a three way tie at 65.00. Woodmere Cattle Co. (Telkwa) had 1263 lb cross bred cows that hit, if you can believe it, 65.00. Evelyn Mt View Farms (Smithers) had a 1875 lb red bull crack 91.00. Carmella Farms (Van) saw their 2235 lb RWF bull notch 88.50 while their 2010 lb red bull topped 93.00. As the fall run winds down, I'd like to say it's been a good one for the Vanderhoof Stockyards. The cattle have been strong and moved very efficiently, the crew has been superb in caring for stock as well as improving the flow of our sales and the market has held at profitable levels! All this without a flake of snow on the ground, hard to imagine. No sale Nov. 29Th , and 1300+ for our last sale of the year on December 6th .
