Market Report for the Vanderhoof sheep and Goat Sale, Wednesday, September 4^th , 2019

We had outstanding support for our first Sheep and Goat Sale here in Vanderhoof, the place was packed! We enjoyed complimentary lamb stew sponsored by the BC Sheep Federation, the stew meat was provided by Glenbirnam Farm, a huge thank you to Jim and Roma Tingle. With a full grandstand enjoying their stew and eager to participate. We were pleased to announce over 750 sheep and 200+ goats for sale!! Here's some of the highlights! 85 lb mix lambs sold as high as $1.40/ lb, ram lambs up to $1.52. Some ewe lambs, just over 100 lb, equaled $1.52/ lb. We had 55-60 lb ram lambs topped $1.40, 60-65 lb ewe lambs hit as high as $1.375/ lb. Cull ewe's demanded $.50-$.65/ lb with odd sales to $.70. Rams traded at $170-$190/hd. Breeding ewe's forced $105-$120/hd and climbed as high as $150, breeding ewe lambs maxed out at $125/hd. For goats we saw 65-70 lb kids climb as high as $2.30/ lb (actually we saw these kids climb just about everything on the property!). The top price on doe's was $1.09/ lb, Bucks were holding in the $1.65-$1.75/ lb & with the right cologne on we had some as high as $1.79. We had a lot of fun, the crew adapted well, lots of buyer participation and I owe a debt of gratitude to the many producers who invested their time coaching me through this pioneer effort. We look forward to making next year even better. We already have over 1000 hd of cattle booked in for our September 13^th Regular Sale. Regretfully, I must close this report by sending our condolences to the Allison family. I never had the pleasure of meeting Red but I'm proud to know some of his kin and I appreciate the impact he had on the industry I love.
