Vanderhoof Sale - Friday, Sep 16, 2016



VANDERHOOF SALE, SEPTEMBER 16,2016

Right close to 1000 head on offer last Friday. Calves, bred heifers, purebred cows calves and bulls, yearlings, cows and the usual bulls. Something here for everyone. Robin Creek Dairy came from Telkwa with the biggest bunch of calves. Their 455 lb s/c set the pace at 193.00, 620 lb s/c settled at 180.00, 361 lb s/c  all the way to 215.00. Along with the s/c came h/c like the 435 lb h/c selling at 166.00. We also had some b/c from Sharondon Farm, Sharon & Don Ofstie ( Fort St. James) weighing 706 lbs notching 151.00. From Calves we went to our feature herd of Purebred Angus from Charlie Giddings of Telkwa. His 5 year old herd sire sold for 2400.00, great set of Red cows up to 2500.00/hd, b/c topped 2200.00 and h/c traded as high as 1200.00. Arrowhead Ranch brought  us a fine set  of bred heifers all the way from Pritchard and our local buyers were ready. Black Angus X set the pace  at 2125.00/ Herefords topped 1700.00 and the Red Angus raced to  2200.00. 420 yearlings came to town, over 100 of them from Martin & Linda Dykens (Houston) who saw their 875 lb steers hit 164.00, 950 lb steers 161.50, 908 lb steers 168.50. Golden Meadows Ranch, Gord & Melody Larson ( Fort Fraser)  had a great set of steers, the big end weighed 1018 lbs and ran to 150.00, while the smaller 820 lb steers climbed to 163.00. Hereford yearling heifers came from Garret Ranches ( Vanderhoof)  at 888 lbs and found their value at 146.50.. Black heifers from DMS Ranch ( Vanderhoof) tipped the scale at 974 lbs and brought 143.00. Jesse Boonstra ( Telkwa) topped the butcher cow market with his 1382 lb Black cows at 86.25. Over all cows averaged 84.00. 30 butcher bulls thru the ring like Art Weins( Vanderhoof) 1925 lb bull trading at 115.50. Ken Dyck ( Burns Lake) had a 2170 lb bull bring 115.00.  Harry Dykstra ( Vanderhoof ) brought a 2050 lb bull also hitting 115.00. Over all bulls averaged 112.00.Some long faces with the softer market, but I’m confident that we will climb from here on most classifications of cattle. Thanks again to the buyers, sellers and crew for another good sale, it was also nice to see the extra local support. Over 500 head booked for next week so far. October 14 pre-sort is full, still some room on October 28 if you want your calves pre-sorted.
