Bright sunny skies and warm temperatures set the stage for the exciting Vanderhoof Bred Cow and Heifer sale on Friday. Over 400 head of bred cows and heifers were on offer, with another 200 head of cattle which sold before the bred sale. Featured were two herd dispersals. Bred heifers from the Raeann MacDougall dispersal led off with heifers bred either Blk Angus or Hereford, a sort of 8 Blk hfrs at 1208 lbs raced to 2075.00 per head. Three more sorts of the powerful Blk hfrs settled at 2000.00. Alf Nunweiler presented Red and RBF hfrs bred Red Angus that commanded a lot of attention, 5 RBF hfrs reached 2400.00, with a sort of Reds at 2375.00 and another at 2300.00. Gerrit Keegstra sold fancy Simm x hfrs for 2000.00. Clayton Steiner’s outstanding Simm x hfrs forced 2400.00 and followed up with a pen for 2300.00. Moving to the Bred cows; The MacDougal1 dispersal cows topped out with 2 yr old Blks setting the pace with a couple of drafts at 2100.00, mature Blks rising to 1950.00 and mature Reds marking 2050.00. Rod Bianco from the Sealy Ranch in Smithers was our other featured dispersal. Two drafts of younger Blk cows powered to 2000.00. Mature Blk cows topped out at 1725.00, mature Reds marked 1900.00. Chet Larson saw a package of young Simm x cows return 2275.00 per head. The regular sale featured a load of steer calves from Clint Lambert, 494 lb Tan s/c settled at 230.00 and a sort of 445 lb Blk and Red s/c were 235.00. Next sale is November 20, over 1400 outstanding calves consigned already. This will be the second last sale of the year, our final sale of the season is Dec. 3.
